They were so impressed that Greg provisionally booked “The Cottage” for the weekend of 29-31 October.

At Easter, 7 Scouts from Apollo Troop were part of the party of 22 Scouts, Explorers, Leaders and Instructors from Nene District who took part in the 59th SWAN Sailing Expendition to The Norfolk Broads. The week was spent learning to sail 24ft – 28ft Cabin Yachts on The Broads and [...]
Zatego – the Nene District annual themed night exercise was held on March 21st. Apollo troop only had a small contingent (16) this year and 2 of Scouts forgot on the night. However those who did attend enjoyed the activity late into the night.

The days programme covered the requirements of the Scout Aeronautics Badge through a mixture of ground training and approximately 25 minutes of one to one flying time.
A successful air experience day organised by the Hertfordshire Scouts at Cambridge Gliding Centre took place today.

A successful walk in the snow took place today. We started at Bainton at about 1.30pm and finished at Fryz Chip Shop, Bretton, at about 6.30pm.

This year’s Remembrance Sunday Service at Orton Holy Trinity Church Longueville was attended by the Group with a very smart and well behaved contingent from Apollo troop in attendance. The silver granite of the war memorial shone in fitting tribute to the fallen of Orton Longueville thanks to the efforts of [...]

The Radio Active Isotope was successfully moved to safety – including across a pond – even though it nearly sank without trace.
A very enjoyable evening was had by all.

It is with great sadness that it is announced that Geoff Keighley who was known to many in the 2nd Nene Group and Nene District as ’The Admiral’ of the SWAN Norfolk Broads Sailing Expedition, passed away peacefully at 3pm on Friday 16th May 2008.

4 Teams of Cyclists rode through Ferry Meadows to Alwalton Lock & Mill Lane Castor hunting for letters on tent pegs.
Little did they know that the letters they noted down formed an anagram of a bird.

This camp involved Scouts in small groups:
· Sleeping in a survival bag shelter
· Cooking a meal of dehydrated food on lightweight stoves.
· Building a shelter from natural materials and sleeping in it
· Lighting fires without matches.
· Cooking backwoods meals on open fires.

Following our groups use of Icelandic tents at Ferry Meadows Centenary
camp, Second Nene Scout Group had been requested to provide a
Demonstration Troop for erecting and packing traditional tents.
Sunday 1st July saw a small intrepid band of volunteers (should that read

We quickly built base camp in the grass area near to the course finish. Volunteers were sort, to pull the canoes out of the water at the bottom of the run.

10 Scouts with Leaders and helpers in support took two different routes to get from Top Lodge to Apethorpe via King’ Cliffe through the rain and snow.

Christmas Party – games and the longest Banana Split you’ve ever seen?
Penny devised the evening. It seemed to consist of getting covered in flour and getting very sticky.
SCOUTS were granted the freedom of Peterborough last night, Wednesday, October 11, the highest honour the city can bestow.
This weekend was spent walking, preparing & cooking a BBQ, Archery, Tree Climbing & Rock Climbing.
As from 18 September 2006 passengers under the age of 12 and under 1.35m must conform with new regulations.

This took place in Ferry Meadows and along the river to Alwalton Lock and back to the start via Castor Mill
Shelters were built during Saturday in the hot sunshine and slept in overnight.
Sunday started in mist and heavy dew which soon turned into another hot & sunny day.
The AGM was held outside in the warm sunshine and was followed by a BBQ.
The Group has a new Quartermaster and Anne Watson, the Group Scout Leader, said that she welcomed having a quartermaster, a position that had been vacant for some time.
The achievements of some of the city’s brightest young stars were celebrated at Peterborough Cathedral.
Mingling with successful youngsters from city schools was veteran DofE award winner Anne Watson, who achieved the Gold Award in 1963.
A Grant from “Awards For All”? ( part of the National Lottery Fund ) has helped to pay for a new fence at the 2nd Nene ( St Peters’ ) Scout HQ on the Orton Longuiville School Site.

Enthusiastic cubs from Peterborough made up part of the 500-strong crowd celebrating the Cub Scouts 90th birthday with a trip to York.
Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th May. The competition included various activities, including High Ropes, Archery, Raft Races, Cyclo Cross.
Fieldhead campsite is situated in Edale Village, in The Peak District National Park see http://www.edale-valley.co.uk/fieldhead.htm .
Accommodation was lightweight tents plus a mess tent.
Activities included hill walking in The Peak District National Park, navigation training, preparation and cooking of meals on lightweight stoves, Saturday evening barbecue and cycling.

A party of Scouts, Leaders, Parents and a Granddad spent the day at RAF Wittering as guests of Flight Lieutenant Heron visiting and meeting personnel of: 5131 Bomb Disposal Squadron; 20 Squadron Harriers; RAF Regiment; Air Trafic Control.

Due to the small number of Scouts involved the Navigation Exercise was changed, at the last minute, to a trip to the Peak District. The weather was fine and sunny and the walk along Froggatt Edge was amazing.

Tents, sleeping bags and blankets have been donated by the 2nd Nene Scout Group, parents and friends. These have been collected from the HQ, taken to London and flown out to Pakistan. Thank you to all those who helped.
A donation was recently made by Pegassus pack to Magpas.
Magpas is the emergency medical charity for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Volunteers are dedicated to saving lives and reducing suffering for patients at the scenes of serious incidents.

Ten scouts from the Apollo troop of the 2nd Nene Scout Group walked from Stamford to Maxey part of the way walking along the Torpel Way. On arrival at the site they pitched hike tents to camp overnight.

The Group Executive booked the alley for the evening and Leaders, Parents, Friends & children joined us in a social evening of bowling.

We met at Yarwell Cross Roads. Three Groups including one group of Explorers walked to Orton Wistow Chip Shop.
The route went past Yarwell Mill, Wandsford Nene Valley Station, Water Newton Mill, Cator Mill and Alwalton.

We were entertained by a Circus Performer from Cumbria. Everyone tried various skills including juggling and diabolo ( no I didn’t know what it was either )
Ever seen fire juggling? IN THE DARK? and even more impressive a FLAME filled diabolo 20 feet in the air – thats about 6 metres.

Saturday was spent walking on various routes up and over the Long Mynd in the low cloud, rain and occassional sunshine.

There was a chioce of Kayacks, canadian Canoes or Coricles to choose from for those who didn’t mind getting wet.
