Scouting for 18-25 year olds in Cambridgeshire
In the last couple of weeks I have become aware that a number of Network groups have been going away on nights away and adventurous activities without completing the relevant paperwork.
All Nights Away or Adventurous Activities (including 1 day events) require a home contact. The Home Contact must be unrelated to any participant, this includes boyfriends, girlfriends, partners etc. There is an open offer from me and my wife (assuming I am not on the event) to act as Home Contact for the event. The Home Contact needs to be given a full list of participants including emergency contact details and the event details. By the end of today there will be a word proforma on the resources section of the website (www.cambridgeshirescoutnetwork.co.uk).
All Nights Away activities involving all adults require a Night Aways Notification form to be sent by email or post to me, ideally at least 7 days before the event but definately before it starts. If you are not usuing a Scout site the home DC also needs to be sent a copy. If you don’t know the Home DC please email or ring the Information Centre (0845 300 1818 or info.centre@scouts.org.uk). By the end of today there will be a word proforma on the resources section of the website (www.cambridgeshirescoutnetwork.co.uk).
The majority of Network activities don’t require formal authorisations assuming everyone is over 18, but obviously the events still need to be run safely so if you know nothing about hill walking in deep snow and ice its best to take an expert along! Anything involving under 18s requires permit holders.
Quite often Network will be attending an activity to help or a large Network event and the arrangements quite quite grey here!
If the event is restricted to Network member only you need to complete a NAN even if you are going on your own and it involves an overnight stay e.g. Some of the Scottish Network events are restricted to Network members and not 18-25 years old generally in Scouting.
If the event is being run by a Section, Group, District or County and you need to check whether you will be included on their NAN form. Obviously if you are also leaders there isn’t a requirement to declare twice! Big Network event usually delegate the Nights Away to the groups.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thanks
Martin
The County is holding its first Network AGM for 7/8 years at St Ives (Copley Centre) on 1st December at 7ish.
I know AGMs/Conferences are boring, so I promise it will be really short but the main “business” of the evening is to get to know other Network units in the County. Over the last couple of months four new units have opened or will open soon and the membership has doubled. We have some really exciting plans for 2010 onwards including Explorer Belt opportunities, loads of fun and generally having a good time.
If getting to St Ives is a problem please contact me
Sorry you are probably asleep at the back but it would be great to see you at the AGM/Social Evening at St Ives and/or the working weekend at Abington.
Cheers
Martin
